Oil of Oregano (Origanum vulgare leaf)

Details

Oil of Oregano is prized for its ability to promote digestive and intestinal health.

Only the highest quality oregano oil is used in these easy-to-swallow softgels to provide all of the natural benefits of this traditional herb. This product uses a powerful 10:1 herbal extract, providing the equivalent of 1.5 g fresh oregano in each serving. Because concentrated essential oils can cause irritation of mucosal membranes, this herbal extract is emulsified in an olive oil base that may make it gentler on the intestinal lining. The emulsification process also helps increase the surface area of the oregano oil particles, allowing for greater dispersal of the active constituents.*

Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is a member of the mint family, native to the Mediterranean region. Like other members of this herb family, oregano contains a diverse array of volatile essential oils and plant phenols that are thought to be responsible for its beneficial effects. These oils are produced to help protect the plant from environmental factors and oxidation by trichomes, tiny hair-like structures on the surface of the leaves. These protective compounds may play a similar role in the human body, helping to support natural antioxidant defenses important for maintaining healthy cells in the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and throughout the body.*

Oregano oil and some of its major constituents, including the volatile terpene compounds carvacrol and thymol, have been used in the food industry as natural food preservatives due to their in vitro activity against certain bacteria, yeasts, and molds. This activity may also play a role in supporting healthy microbial balance in the digestive tract and immune health.*
