Supplement facts (per lozenge)

5-HTP (from Griffonia simplicifolia

50 mg

5-HTP Lozenges by Seeking Health provide natural L-5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia plant in a naturally flavored lozenge designed to dissolve slowly in the mouth.

5-HTP is not found in significant amounts in a typical diet. The human body manufactures 5-HTP from L-tryptophan, a natural amino acid found in our diets. However, eating food that contains L-tryptophan does not significantly increase 5-HTP levels, because L-tryptophan may be diverted to other functions, such as niacin production. 5-HTP is a precursor for serotonin, an important brain neurotransmitter for emotional well-being. Serotonin levels in the brain are highly dependent on the availability of 5-HTP within the central nervous system. 5-HTP can cross the blood-brain barrier without the requirement of a transport carrier.*

Neurotransmitters control major body functions including movement, emotional response, and the physical ability to experience pleasure and pain. These functions also include the appetite center of the brain. Being a precursor for serotonin, 5-HTP may help support a healthy appetite. Sleep is associated with serotonin levels. Adequate serotonin levels play a significant role in melatonin production, the hormone responsible for regulating biological rhythms, such as sleep.*
